From Humble Beginnings

A cooperative born from the need to liberate our community from predatory lending

For many years, small market vendors in Talibon Public Market struggled with capital funding, often resorting to usurers and high-interest loans that significantly reduced their earnings. With vending being the livelihood of more than 1,000 families, providing an alternative credit facility became imperative.

In 1990, DTI-Bohol personnel challenged the Municipal Development Council to organize a cooperative that would serve as a medium for social progress. As business activities in Talibon Public Market were rapidly increasing, small businesses in need of capitalization were at the mercy of predatory lenders.

In response to this need, a group of committed civic leaders banded together in 1991 to form the TALIBON CREDIT COOPERATIVE (TALCRECO). Their vision was to create an excellent medium of service by pooling members' resources, introducing capital mobilization programs, and providing financial assistance to members in need.
